12th Avenue

At night (again):

I believe I have one more night shot taken from this location.  I also believe it might end up here in the not too distant future.

SinXero II

I wanted to get a shot in the sun, after we took the first shots in the shadow of the truck.  He suggested taking off his jacket to show off his tattoos.

Cement Structure

Part of Pier 92:

This shot could have used a trim.  Yeah, I forgot, big deal.  But who can think at a time like this?  There's ice cream waiting to be eaten.

Train Yard Triptych

On vintage film:

This is an experiment of sorts.  I happen to think it's a failed experiment.

By the way, is it sacrilege to say that I'm not all into The Wall that much?  It's good and all, but it's not like religion or anything (hence me saying it's sacrilege, I suppose).  If you ask me, that's where they jumped the pig.

Figures in the Windows

Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC:

Got a hell of a headache.  You know, one of those when the side of your head burns whenever you breathe in?  Is that a migraine?

I need a nap.

Tracks Through Fence

Uptown Baby, Uptown Baby:

I love it when you're faced with the choice of one or the other being in focus but never both.  Though they now have that new digital camera that takes a picture and you can choose which piece you want in focus or out of focus (despite depth differences, how's that for alliteration?) after the fact, in the computer, and it's not some kind of trick but the real deal.

Until then...

West Side Highway

Taken from the highway!

Maybe I should stop taking pictures while driving and help make the world a safer place.  But if I did that, then what would I post here?

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Pier 94

Well, the entrance anyway, taken from Pier 92.

Upon closer examination of this picture, I've learned that no matter how far away a woman (or group of women) are, I'll take a picture of their ass (or asses) if the situation merits it (or can I end that sentence just with "merits?"  Is there a copy editor in the house?).

Upon reflection, I probably really was thinking that when I took the picture.

Mt. Sinai II

Still not the actual mountain:

I'm just not all there lately.  Or should I say I'm just not all here?  I'm neither here nor there?  Here, there, and everywhere?  Perhaps...

On Rivington Street

...is where he noticed the Rolleiflex around my neck:

This space for rent.

I guess that's my way of saying I'm not quite sure what to say today.  But what else is new...

Rack and Shadows

Downtown somewhere.  Chinatown, I think:

Okay, now we're square.  And the photo is square!  Square like a pear.  No, like a pair.  Like a pare?  That's not even a noun.  Michael ParĂ©?  Whatever happened to that guy?  I don't know, but I bet people are now going to start finding my blog doing Michael ParĂ© searches.  I mean, ever since I mentioned Jon Bon Jovi people have been finding the blog via searching for him, yet I've tried finding my blog by searching for him and have yet to find it by searching for him.  What the hell am I talking about.  I think it's Greek yogurt time.  And no, that's not a euphemism for something that might happen at Plato's Retreat (Plato's Retreat?  How old am I?).  I mean that Fage stuff.

"Fage?"

I might have to rethink what I mean by "Greek" yogurt after all...

Edifice

In Tribeca:

I was hoping to get an imposing looking shot of this thing.  The film was Kodak Super XX from god knows when.  Probably the 1940s from the look of the roll (no box).  It's an imposing building, I hope I captured its imposition.

Oh yeah, I owe you a picture from yesterday.

Hazy Night

In Midtown:

Taken from the roof of Pier 92 in March.  Getting to the internet only now.

Triple Bypass

At Mt. Sinai Hospital:

You get it?  "Triple Bypass?"

At first I was going to go with triple overpass, but not like the kind that you make the right just past to get on the Stemmons Freeway to get to the Trade Mart, or maybe Parkland Hospital in case your plans get blown all over the trunk of the car.

And look at that, I still brought it all back to hospitals!

It's the small things in life, I tell you...

SinXero

He's a street artist, photographer, filmmaker, you name it.  I guess I could have just simply said "artist" and that would have covered all those bases.  If you want to get a better idea of his work, check him out here.

Bike and Biker

In front of Pier 92:

I like how it appears he's about to run over that rollerblading white dude, even though he's not really a dude, but more of a stencil painted in the bikeway/rollerbladeway.  Come to think of it, that looks like one funky stencil, so maybe it shouldn't have been painted white in the first place.

Mt. Sinai

The hospital, not the mountain:

Though I'm sure you'll find a Dr. Moses there, or maybe a Dr. Aaron Moses even.  I'm finally catching Part 2 of that Bill Clinton PBS documentary.  And they're just about to get into Monica Lewinsky (so to speak).

George Washington

In bridge form:

I took this while driving a minivan.  I'm not sure that's the safest approach to art.  Then again, I'm not sure this photo approaches art, but I think it might adhere to the rule of thirds.

SEN One

I wrote a little bit about Geoge "SEN One" Morillo a little earlier in the blog, where I had a shot of him at work.  However, I think instead of trying to do him justice with my words, it would be better to go to his site.

Yes.  Navigate away from here and see what George is all about.

12th Avenue

At night:

Shot from Pier 92.

I know I haven't written much of anything substantial lately, but boy do I keep them pictures coming!

Sigh...

Bikes

From above:

Above in this case being Pier 92.

Ear Inn

An old building, shot on old film:

I'm falling asleep in my chair here, and it's not even 4:30pm yet.  What's going on here?

Behind Barbed Wire...

...there lies a city:

That city looks a little dark.  I should try brightening it up a little.

There, I think that's better.  Yeah, I'm sure my mask border could be a bit tighter, But hey, I gots things to do and places to go tonight.  Okay, that's not true, I'm going to be developing some film.  Hot, steamy, film developing action.  That's how I roll.

Pun intended?  I don't know.

The Big Three

From left to right, Governor's Island, Statue of Liberty, Manhattan Island:

Yeah, that little thing sticking up in the middle there is the Statue of Liberty.  Pretty imposing, eh?

Plaque

On the Brooklyn Bridge:

You see, when you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, you not only get a view or two, but it's also informative.  More informative than this post, come to think of it.

Scrambling

In Central Park:

Oh fiddlesticks.  I just did all this work on this photo to really lighten up that shadow area, but I did it in a separate layer and I forgot to merge my layers before doing other things, so....yeah.  Big dark spot.  You should have seen it before, you know, after the work.  And it looked natural, not like some kind of HDR business.

I'll HDR them....

Washington Square Village

It's near Washington Square, and in Greenwich Village!

Holy crap I need to eat.  Yeah, that's all I got tonight, and I've been saying that for hours now.

Enough already.  Food.

Cooper Construction

The whole block:

Took this (and others) with the SWC, holding it up over the fence with that semi-opaque netting that has a way of ruining photographs.  I always like when they take down a whole block and you can see through to the other buildings and you get a view you don't always get, and will be limited until the new building goes up.  Whether the new building will be an "improvement" is anybody's guess.  What just went down wasn't considered any high achievement in architecture.  I hear some tall glass thing will be replacing it.

And so it goes.
Same as it ever was.
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Broadway Shadows

By City Hall:

Okay, I'm ready for a nap, or lunch or something.  And why the hell are there ants in this apartment for the first time in 20 years?  And they're not even in the kitchen.  How stupid can these ants be?  I'm probably going to get some ant traps, but I always wonder, won't the ant traps just attract more ants?  Maybe that's how they get you?  You know, "they" being the people who make the ant traps?  I've never even heard of an NYC apartment with ants.  Roaches, yes.  Silverfish and god knows what else?  Yes.  But ants?

Now if I had uncles crawling around here I'd really be concerned.

Balconies

Of Washington Square Village:

They have sort of a repetition thing going on there. no?

Elvis Lives

Who am I to argue with chalk graffiti?

Today was a May Day.  The helicopters were flying low in the neighborhood, keeping an eye on the world-changers.  I wonder how they did...
