50th Street

From Rockefeller Center, 7 floors up (I think it was 7).

It's no "Manhattanenge," but what are you going to do?

Sidewalk Gehry Cellphone Woman

Just one of those "wysiwyg" kind of titles:

Well what do you know, I did come back to post something after all!

Bridges Over Land and Water

Two crops!

Which one is "better?"  Who knows!  I sure don't.  I'm sure there's a third option.  I'm sure there's a horizontal option too.  Well, there are always options, whether it's in cropping a photo or in life.

What to do, what to do...

Name Forgotten

He appreciated the camera, I took his picture.  All I remember is that he was also a photographer.

On West Broadway, between Prince and Houston.

Houston Street

On the east East EAST side:

I've been developing film like nobody's business lately, so maybe the updates around here will be a little more frequent.  However, I'm not going to have access to a $25,000 Imacon scanner until October.  That is to say, I'm not going to have affordable access to one, as opposed to paying $50 a scan for the privilege.  I feel like it's a giant step backwards to be posting things scanned on my almost $200 HP G4050.  You can check the entry before this one to see a before/after example of what a fancy expensive scanner can do.

One Negative, Two Pictures

Washington Square North:

The first version was my first version.  The below was what happened after I used a Imacon scanner with a few photoshop lessons under my belt.

Dig the lights, especially.

LMFAO

I forgot I took this one (and another to come soon):

This was right before they really hit.  I had no idea who they were, but I figured if they were out and people were making a fuss at them (and total strangers yelling derisive things at them, to which they yelled back), they were worth taking a shot.  I got this and one more with the C/M, and then got some more from the front (or was it the other way around) with the Starflash (read the saga here!).

I should probably post the uncropped version of this, since figuring out the "correct" crop was a bitch.  I do like that you have this guy on the left wearing what looks to be a Santa hat, and the guy on the right taking in the scene.  I'm not sure and don't remember if he was part of the crew or not, but I am enjoying that stance.

Rays of Liberty

It's a crop, but I dig it:

I'm surprised I hadn't posted this here before, especially since this had been hanging around for a while, and it took no real current effort to put up, other than to find and put up.

That make sense?  No?  Good.

I like the four birds in the shot, on the bottom near the right.  They almost don't look like birds at first, but they're birds.  At least that's what I'm going with.

Gay Pride

It's not just about shirtless trannies and leather chaps:

Then again maybe this woman isn't straight.  She could at the very least be bi-curious, or perhaps a lesbian through and through.  On the other hand, she may not even be a woman at all.  I don't know what she might be tucking under there.  Years ago at my local post office I saw this chick with the best ass I've ever seen on a chick checking her PO box.  I was in love with her even though I hadn't even seen her face, but her long blond hair flowed down to the middle of her back, and I couldn't take my eyes off her tight tight jeans.

Then she turned around to reveal herself to be none other than Sebastian Bach.

Yes.  Sebastian Bach, formerly of Skid Row, has the best ass of any chick I've ever seen.

I wonder if he's ever been to the parade...

Gay Pride 2012

It's that time of year again!

So remember that project I mentioned I was working on?  Well, I finished it.  However, I now have a secondary project going on that's somewhat related to this first big project, so I'm not sure I'll be posting here every day again.  Heck, I don't even know if I'll be posting here every day again ever again, but I'll still post as much as I'm able.

Just to let you know, I shot 11 rolls at the parade (10 slide), so expect it to get quite fabulous around here for a while...

Vintage Sunset (Adjusted)

Adjusted from the original that I posted however long ago:

Yes, this is part of my ongoing project as well, and I'm pretty much almost done with it, and then maybe at some point (when the time is right), I'll share the news.

Until then...

Now You See It,

Now you don't!

See what I mean?

Photoshop CS6 is a hell of a drug....

Central Park 2x

In Central Park, Central Park:

Wow, so it's been a week eh?  It's amazing how easy it is to stop doing something you've been doing virtually every day for almost three years.  As for this photo, I'm pretty sure I posted a different version of this a while back.  Though this is actually part of my current project, and without getting too specific, it involves me doing some high resolution scans of my work (selected photos, not the whole shebang) and then working them in photoshop to the best of my single photoshop class taken ability.  It's a pretty time consuming affair.

I'm not complaining or anything.  There's people breathing in death in coal mines or throwing themselves off balconies in iPad factories, so I have it pretty easy.  The end goal of all this work is pretty important, and it's worthwhile.  At least it's important and worthwhile to me.  Again, when the time's right I'll let you in on what all this work is about.  And when it's all done, I'll be hopefully posting a picture a day, every day once again, just moseying on with life.

Triple Bridge Encounter

At Mt. Sinai Hospital:

See, I can still sneak away here and there to upload a photo.

Lucky you...

How many is it that I owe you?  Four?  Five?  I'm going to have to figure the count once this is all through.

Paving Stone Way

Midtown, West Side:

Wow, so I don't know if I've ever skipped three days in a row before.  I will say that I've been working like crazy on a big project.  I've been working on it for weeks, and I think it might take a few more weeks to finish.  It's a photo related project.  It involves me sitting in front of this here computer for many a long hour, trying to figure out crap in Photoshop CS4 so the stuff I'm working on doesn't look like I've been working on it with Photoshop CS4.  It's something I'll probably share once it's all done and ready to go.  Until then, you'll just have to trust me, and the sporadic posts may continue (sporadically, of course).

I owe you three.

12th Ave III

This is the last one of the series, I promise:

I should have taken more.

Thursday, May 31, 2012

12th Avenue

At night (again):

I believe I have one more night shot taken from this location.  I also believe it might end up here in the not too distant future.

SinXero II

I wanted to get a shot in the sun, after we took the first shots in the shadow of the truck.  He suggested taking off his jacket to show off his tattoos.

Cement Structure

Part of Pier 92:

This shot could have used a trim.  Yeah, I forgot, big deal.  But who can think at a time like this?  There's ice cream waiting to be eaten.

Monday, May 28, 2012

Train Yard Triptych

On vintage film:

This is an experiment of sorts.  I happen to think it's a failed experiment.

By the way, is it sacrilege to say that I'm not all into The Wall that much?  It's good and all, but it's not like religion or anything (hence me saying it's sacrilege, I suppose).  If you ask me, that's where they jumped the pig.

Figures in the Windows

Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC:

Got a hell of a headache.  You know, one of those when the side of your head burns whenever you breathe in?  Is that a migraine?

I need a nap.

Tracks Through Fence

Uptown Baby, Uptown Baby:

I love it when you're faced with the choice of one or the other being in focus but never both.  Though they now have that new digital camera that takes a picture and you can choose which piece you want in focus or out of focus (despite depth differences, how's that for alliteration?) after the fact, in the computer, and it's not some kind of trick but the real deal.

Until then...

West Side Highway

Taken from the highway!

Maybe I should stop taking pictures while driving and help make the world a safer place.  But if I did that, then what would I post here?

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Pier 94

Well, the entrance anyway, taken from Pier 92.

Upon closer examination of this picture, I've learned that no matter how far away a woman (or group of women) are, I'll take a picture of their ass (or asses) if the situation merits it (or can I end that sentence just with "merits?"  Is there a copy editor in the house?).

Upon reflection, I probably really was thinking that when I took the picture.

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Mt. Sinai II

Still not the actual mountain:

I'm just not all there lately.  Or should I say I'm just not all here?  I'm neither here nor there?  Here, there, and everywhere?  Perhaps...

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

On Rivington Street

...is where he noticed the Rolleiflex around my neck:

This space for rent.

I guess that's my way of saying I'm not quite sure what to say today.  But what else is new...

Rack and Shadows

Downtown somewhere.  Chinatown, I think:

Okay, now we're square.  And the photo is square!  Square like a pear.  No, like a pair.  Like a pare?  That's not even a noun.  Michael Paré?  Whatever happened to that guy?  I don't know, but I bet people are now going to start finding my blog doing Michael Paré searches.  I mean, ever since I mentioned Jon Bon Jovi people have been finding the blog via searching for him, yet I've tried finding my blog by searching for him and have yet to find it by searching for him.  What the hell am I talking about.  I think it's Greek yogurt time.  And no, that's not a euphemism for something that might happen at Plato's Retreat (Plato's Retreat?  How old am I?).  I mean that Fage stuff.

"Fage?"

I might have to rethink what I mean by "Greek" yogurt after all...

Edifice

In Tribeca:

I was hoping to get an imposing looking shot of this thing.  The film was Kodak Super XX from god knows when.  Probably the 1940s from the look of the roll (no box).  It's an imposing building, I hope I captured its imposition.

Oh yeah, I owe you a picture from yesterday.

Hazy Night

In Midtown:

Taken from the roof of Pier 92 in March.  Getting to the internet only now.

Friday, May 18, 2012

Triple Bypass

At Mt. Sinai Hospital:

You get it?  "Triple Bypass?"

At first I was going to go with triple overpass, but not like the kind that you make the right just past to get on the Stemmons Freeway to get to the Trade Mart, or maybe Parkland Hospital in case your plans get blown all over the trunk of the car.

And look at that, I still brought it all back to hospitals!

It's the small things in life, I tell you...

Thursday, May 17, 2012

SinXero

He's a street artist, photographer, filmmaker, you name it.  I guess I could have just simply said "artist" and that would have covered all those bases.  If you want to get a better idea of his work, check him out here.

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Bike and Biker

In front of Pier 92:

I like how it appears he's about to run over that rollerblading white dude, even though he's not really a dude, but more of a stencil painted in the bikeway/rollerbladeway.  Come to think of it, that looks like one funky stencil, so maybe it shouldn't have been painted white in the first place.

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Mt. Sinai

The hospital, not the mountain:

Though I'm sure you'll find a Dr. Moses there, or maybe a Dr. Aaron Moses even.  I'm finally catching Part 2 of that Bill Clinton PBS documentary.  And they're just about to get into Monica Lewinsky (so to speak).

Monday, May 14, 2012

George Washington

In bridge form:

I took this while driving a minivan.  I'm not sure that's the safest approach to art.  Then again, I'm not sure this photo approaches art, but I think it might adhere to the rule of thirds.

SEN One

I wrote a little bit about Geoge "SEN One" Morillo a little earlier in the blog, where I had a shot of him at work.  However, I think instead of trying to do him justice with my words, it would be better to go to his site.

Yes.  Navigate away from here and see what George is all about.

Saturday, May 12, 2012

12th Avenue

At night:

Shot from Pier 92.

I know I haven't written much of anything substantial lately, but boy do I keep them pictures coming!

Sigh...

Friday, May 11, 2012

Bikes

From above:

Above in this case being Pier 92.

Thursday, May 10, 2012

Ear Inn

An old building, shot on old film:

I'm falling asleep in my chair here, and it's not even 4:30pm yet.  What's going on here?

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Behind Barbed Wire...

...there lies a city:

That city looks a little dark.  I should try brightening it up a little.

There, I think that's better.  Yeah, I'm sure my mask border could be a bit tighter, But hey, I gots things to do and places to go tonight.  Okay, that's not true, I'm going to be developing some film.  Hot, steamy, film developing action.  That's how I roll.

Pun intended?  I don't know.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

The Big Three

From left to right, Governor's Island, Statue of Liberty, Manhattan Island:

Yeah, that little thing sticking up in the middle there is the Statue of Liberty.  Pretty imposing, eh?

Monday, May 7, 2012

Plaque

On the Brooklyn Bridge:

You see, when you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, you not only get a view or two, but it's also informative.  More informative than this post, come to think of it.

Sunday, May 6, 2012

Scrambling

In Central Park:

Oh fiddlesticks.  I just did all this work on this photo to really lighten up that shadow area, but I did it in a separate layer and I forgot to merge my layers before doing other things, so....yeah.  Big dark spot.  You should have seen it before, you know, after the work.  And it looked natural, not like some kind of HDR business.

I'll HDR them....

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Washington Square Village

It's near Washington Square, and in Greenwich Village!

Holy crap I need to eat.  Yeah, that's all I got tonight, and I've been saying that for hours now.

Enough already.  Food.

Friday, May 4, 2012

Cooper Construction

The whole block:

Took this (and others) with the SWC, holding it up over the fence with that semi-opaque netting that has a way of ruining photographs.  I always like when they take down a whole block and you can see through to the other buildings and you get a view you don't always get, and will be limited until the new building goes up.  Whether the new building will be an "improvement" is anybody's guess.  What just went down wasn't considered any high achievement in architecture.  I hear some tall glass thing will be replacing it.

And so it goes.
Same as it ever was.
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Thursday, May 3, 2012

Broadway Shadows

By City Hall:

Okay, I'm ready for a nap, or lunch or something.  And why the hell are there ants in this apartment for the first time in 20 years?  And they're not even in the kitchen.  How stupid can these ants be?  I'm probably going to get some ant traps, but I always wonder, won't the ant traps just attract more ants?  Maybe that's how they get you?  You know, "they" being the people who make the ant traps?  I've never even heard of an NYC apartment with ants.  Roaches, yes.  Silverfish and god knows what else?  Yes.  But ants?

Now if I had uncles crawling around here I'd really be concerned.

Balconies

Of Washington Square Village:

They have sort of a repetition thing going on there. no?
